The last thing the Yankees want to do is lose this series or get swept in Boston. With Gerrit Cole on the mound, he looks to be the stopper for the Yankees and provide them with a big win.

Yankees RHP Gerrit Cole (2-2, 3.62)

Gerrit Cole is making his first start against the Red Sox since the 2024 finger wag at Yankee Stadium and his first start at Fenway Park since 2022, where Cole gave up three home runs over six innings of work. This will be the first time Cole has faced the Red Sox lineup without Rafael Devers, which should help the situation.

Cole’s last outing in Detroit with an extra day of rest was not great, giving up five earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. His command was not good at all, and he will look to fix that today.

Red Sox LHP Jake Bennett (1-3, 3.71)

The Yankees will get a look at another young Red Sox starter, Jake Bennett. Bennett is making his fifth career start. So far, Bennett has been good with a 3.71 ERA and is coming off his best outing yet at Coors Field. Right-handed batters have had a ton of success against him, posting a .713 OPS against him.

This will be the first time Bennett has faced the Yankees in his career.

BOSTON — The Yankees lost 6-3 to the Red Sox. The Red Sox have stunk at Fenway Park. Not against the Yankees, though. It took a four-run fifth inning for Boston to take the lead over the Yankees, and they never looked back.

Shakey Defense

The Yankees’ defensive woes appeared early in this one and did not go away, committing four errors on the day. The last time they did that, against Boston last August. In the first inning, Austin Wells committed a catcher’s interference after Wylier Abreu appeared to have grounded out. Then, Schlittler arm-mailed a ball into center on a pickoff attempt for the second error.

While not ruled an error, the battery of Schlittler/Wells dropped a popup that cost Schlittler some pitches that could have helped him on the backend of the outing.

“I mean, gotta take responsibility for that,” Yankees starter Cam Schlittler said. “I mean, we’ll just kind of sit in there; it’s communication, so on that one, just give them opportunities to try and, you know, get on the same page.”

Then, after Schlitter issued a walk and a single to lead off the sixth inning, Rosario dropped a pop-up in foul ground to give Abreu new life in the at-bat. He struck out in the big spot. Then, a ball that was 112 MPH off the bat was grounded to Rosario, who booted the ball and started the flood of four Boston runs.

There was also a bad throw by Jose Caballero on a sac fly; with a good throw, the runner would be out at the plate.

Schlittler would have been out of the inning had it not been for the Yankees’ bad defense. It seems to always pop up at Fenway Park in June for some reason.

The defense also showed up later on with Yerry De Los Santos bobbling a bunt back to him to give the Red Sox bases loaded with no outs, looking for insurance. They got it on a hit by pitch and a misplay by Volpe that could not be ruled an error but should have been.

“[The defense] Not up to the way we’re, we’ve been playing or capable of playing, you know, and ultimately it was too much to overcome.” Manager Aaron Boone said after the game. “I mean, you got to keep playing, sometimes, and it’s not fun going through that are fun when you make mistakes in a game, especially one that you have a lead, and it’s a close game for most of that game, which is, you know, we didn’t play well.”

You just can’t win games when your defense commits four errors.

Offense with RISP

The Yankees certainly had chances early in the game against Boston’s lefty Connelly Early. They could not capitalize further than the two runs they got against him. Ben Rice had chances with RISP, as did Volpe, to dig the Red Sox in a deep hole, but they could not.

After the second inning, the Yankees had just one baserunner, a home run by Caballero, until the seventh inning. Their inability to continue to put pressure on Early kept him in the game much longer than he should have been.

The Yankees can’t say they did not have chances, because they did. They squashed them as they have for the past week.

Tomorrow, the Yankees and the Red Sox will play again from Fenway Park. It will be Will Warren against Peyton Tolle, two more young starters who should be part of this rivalry for years to come. First pitch will be at 7:10pm on YES and the Gotham Sports App.

BOSTON — After a thrilling series win against the Detroit Tigers where the Yankees won the final two games of the series, the Yankees now head to Fenway Park to take on the Red Sox.

Tonight, it will be a rematch of the Winner Take All 2025 AL Wild Card Game 3, with Cam Schlittler going against Connelly Early.

The Red Sox are coming off losing 2/3 games on the road against the Colorado Rockies. This season, Boston is 12-25 at Fenway Park and overall has struggled at home.

The Yankees have the second-best road record in baseball, 26-16, and the Red Sox pose a challenge for them. The Yankees have been solid in the AL East this season, and they look to continue that trend in enemy territory.

DETRIOT — After losing the first game of the series, the Yankees bounced back to win the final two games against the Tigers in one of the more impressive series wins of the Yankees season thus far.

It was not a scrub pitcher the Yankees beat today; it was the reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal. In his start tonight, it was the first time since 2021 that Skubal allowed three home runs in a game.

Young Goldi

The Yankees never trailed in this game. That is thanks to Paul Goldschmidt. Up in the count to lead off the game, Goldschmidt took a 3-1 fastball and powered it out of the park for a leadoff home run.

Goldschmidt was not done yet. While Skubal was dominating the rest of the Yankees lineup, he was not dominating Goldschmidt. In his second at-bat, he took an 0-1 curveball out to left-center for his second home run of the game.

Goldschmidt is making the case for the hall of fame. On June 24th, Goldschmidt has more home runs (14) than he did all of last season (11). With the injuries the Yankees have suffered this season, Goldschmidt’s performance has been big for the Yankees.

El Marciano

Skubal made Jasson Dominguez look silly in his first two at-bats, striking him out, and began his third at-bat as well. But Dominguez battled. He took some close pitches in the at-bat and fouled off some tough pitches until he got to a 3-2 count. Dominguez then hammered a changeup to deep left field for the game-deciding two-run blast.

"Just a great finishing at-bat by JD after really struggling against him in the first 2-plus." Manager Aaron Boone said after the game of the at-bat.

It was the third home run this season off the bat of Dominguez and the first against a left-handed pitcher. If Dominguez could get hot from both sides of the plate, that would certainly go a long way.

Yankees Pitching

Ryan Weathers was by no means dominant today. In fact, he was lucky. His defense picked him up in multiple spots, including in the fifth inning, where Max Schuemann robbed two hits in center field. Weathers also made a sparkling defensive play to nab a runner trying to advance to third with one out.

The Yankees’ bullpen did its job once again today. Camilo Doval showed flashes of greatness and flashes of weakness in one outing. He got ahead of catcher Jake Rogers 0-2 and proceeded to walk him. He got a popout and a groundout before Boone went to Fernando Cruz.

Cruz struck out four of the five batters he faced, the other being a hit, to retire the side. When Cruz has his splitter working, it makes his job so much easier because batters can’t not swing at the pitch because of how deceptive it is.

David Bednar then worked his 11th straight scoreless appearance in the ninth and was nasty once again. He allowed a two-out single to McGonicle, but Dillon Dingler flew out on the very next pitch to end the game. Bednar has been much better in 2026 than fans will give him credit for.

The Yankees are now going to ship up to Boston for a four-game series. The series probables are listed below, but hometown prodigy Cam Schlittler will toe the rubber tomorrow, opposite Connelly Early, for a rematch of Game 1 of the 2025 AL Wild Card game. First pitch will be at 7:10pm on YES.

DETROIT — After the Yankees’ 4-3 win over the Tigers last night to even the series, the Yankees are back in action tonight, and they will face the back-to-back reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal.

Prior to the game, Ryan McMahon was placed on the IL with an ear/throat infection, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network. The Yankees have recalled UTIL Osawldo Cabrera from AAA Scranton.

Cabrera has not appeared in the big leagues since May 13th, 2025, after suffering a season-ending ankle injury. Cabrera has been hot at AAA in the month of June, hitting .397 with a .967 OPS and 3 HRs and 11 RBIs.

First pitch Wednesday will be at 6:40pm on Amazon Prime Video.

Interestingly, Anthony Volpe, since returning from the IL, has a 126 WRC+ against left-handed pitching, which is really good. Max Schuemann, who is batting ninth and playing center, has a 195 WRC+ against lefties as well, which seemingly merits some playing time, though it’s only 18 at-bats.

Yankees LHP Ryan Weathers (2-5, 4.13)

The last start against the White Sox was Weathers’ best start in a decent bit, and the Yankees and Weathers are hoping he builds off that outing. The long ball has been an issue for Weathers this season, and the Tigers certainly have players who can take you deep. There is not a large sample size of appearances for Weathers against the Tigers in his career, but the surface numbers look solid.

The Yankees are facing the two-time Cy Young winner for the first time of two in the next week. With all the trade speculation, could this be a showcase to the Yankees? Well, if the Yankees’ bats are on track, which they haven’t been as of late, Skubal could be in for a tough day with the way the Yankees hit left-handers. Couple that with the minor struggles Skubal has had since returning from the IL, the Yankees are hoping they can have success against Skubal tonight.

DETROIT — The Yankees played their best defensive alignment Tuesday, and for that, the Yankees got a win with a big blast, big defense, and big bullpen outings. They took game two against the Tigers 4-3, winning a one-run game against a team that could be a playoff team if things break their way going forward.

The Lollipop Guild

The Yankees needed a jolt. Enter Jazz Chisholm Jr. After last night’s antics with the lollipop at second base and the subsequent managerial callout on the Talkin’ Yanks podcast this morning. One thing is certain: Chisholm Jr. has a flair for the dramatic, and he showed that in the top of the sixth inning. With the Yankees needing a big hit, Chisholm Jr. provided a one-out, two-run home run to drive in Paul Goldschmidt, who reached on an infield single. I guess the “bloop and a blast” saying still holds true.

“I feel like I’m really getting close to me again.” Chisholm Jr. said to YES Network after the game on his home run.

Over his last 30 games, Chisholm Jr. has heated up, posting a .853 OPS.

On the lollipop, “I’m playing a kids‘ game,” he said.

The Defense

The Yankees had been criticized in recent games for their outfield defensive alignment. Tonight, the regular defense was the reason they won. The good defense started in the fourth inning. The Yankees were down 2-0 with Riley Greene at second base, and Hao-Yu Lee hit a single to left. Tigers third base coach Joey Cora sent Greene home rather aggressively, and Cody Bellinger nailed him at the plate to end the inning and cut down a run.

Later on in the seventh inning with the Yankees holding onto a slim one-run lead, Brent Headrick allowed a one-out single to Ben Malgeri, his second in his MLB debut. After that, rookie Kevin McGonigle lined a ball to right field, with Jasson Domínguez making a shoestring catch. With Malgeri getting too far off first base, he was doubled off to end the inning.

The Bullpen

Carlos Rodón pitched well, but he gave up back-to-back doubles to lead off the sixth inning and allowed the Tigers to cut the Yankees’ lead down to one. After getting a big strikeout of Riley Greene, Aaron Boone elected to go to his bullpen, needing 11 outs to a win.

His bullpen delivered. Boone used three relievers, Fernando Cruz, Brent Headrick, and David Bednar, to get to the handshake line. It was not easy, however. Cruz did not have great command of his splitter today, which made his outing more and more difficult. He was able to work out of the inning and keep the Yankees’ lead.

Headrick has been used a lot this season, and that wear is beginning to show. Headrick did not surrender a run, but he was getting hit super hard during the outing. With that being said, Headrick did get a big five outs (helped out by Domínguez) and got the ball to Bednar.

Since blowing the save against the Mets over a month ago, Bednar has been nails. He’s allowed just one earned run on the day after he blew the save, struck out 15 batters in 13 innings pitched, and given up just five hits and five walks. Tonight, Bednar got the Yankees four big outs, all on just 17 pitches.

Tomorrow, Ryan Weathers will take on the Tigers, opposite the reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal. It will be the battle of the southpaws. First pitch will be at 6:40pm on Amazon Prime Video

DETROIT — The Yankees are now on a losing streak after dropping the first game to the Tigers. It marks the first time in over a month that the Yankees have lost three in a row, and they will look to avoid a fourth in a row and another series loss.

Prior to the game, the Yankees placed C Ali Sanchez on the paternity list and recalled C J.C. Escarra from AAA Scranton. Sanchez was removed from the game yesterday after getting hit by a pitch on the hand, but all X-rays and CT scans came back negative, and Sanchez will avoid the IL.

Rodón could be another team’s ace-level starter, and for the Yankees, he’s their number three or four starter and needs to perform better than that tonight.

DETROIT — Instant Reactions to the Yankees’ (46-31) 5-3 loss to the Tigers (34-44) in the series opener on the road.

1. With the loss today, the Yankees have now lost three games in a row for the first time since 5/20-22 (the Brewers series).

2. Gerrit Cole was not great today. The first two innings were fine, but after that, the lack of command of his changeup and slider caught up to him as the outing went on. He then proceeded to give up 7 hits over his final two and a third innings of work and five runs.

   Cole could have been affected by the extra day of rest he received by the Yankees resetting the rotation. His velocity was good; he just could not put batters away with two strikes and finish at-bats.

3. The Yankees, for the third straight day, scored first in their loss. After a two-out walk from Jose Caballero and a subsequent steal of second base, Ali Sanchez drove home on an RBI double. It was the first time the Yankees had a hit with runners in scoring position since Friday.

4. The Yankees had another opportunity to add runs in the third inning, but Jazz Chisholm Jr. stranded the runners in scoring position with a strikeout. This season, Chisholm Jr. has a 57 WRC+ with runners in scoring position, according to FanGraphs. For an RBI position like second base, that is just not great.

5. The Yankees were retired 11 in a row from the third inning with two on with two outs through the rest of Valdez’ outing. The Yankees had solid at-bats early, but that fell off as the game went on and Valdez got further and further into a grove.

6. Kevin McGonigle is going to be a force to be reckoned with in baseball for years to come. The youngster was 2-5 with an RBI groundout in the game and was really in the middle of everything.

7. Anthony Volpe should be banned from using ABS challenges. He once again challenged a pitch that was fully in the zone and lost himself $500 in the process.

8. Ali Sanchez was removed from the game after being hit by a pitch and removed from the game. Austin Wells came in to pinch-run and catch for the remainder of the game. Sanchez is making the best of his opportunity with the Yankees so far, so the hope is the injury is nothing dire.

9. After Sanchez left the game, Amed Rosario hit a two-run home run to cut into the Tigers’ lead and make the score 5-3. It was Rosario’s seventh home run of the season, fourth against right-handers, and one more than he had in all of 2025.

10. The Yankees had a big chance in the eighth inning after two infield singles with two outs, but after the Tigers went to setup man/closer Will Vest, Jasson Dominguez struck out on three straight pitches to end the inning and strand the runners and the Yankees’ only late opportunity.

11. The Yankees and the Tigers will play the second game of the three-game series tomorrow. LHP Carlos Rodon will get the start for the Yankees with RHP Casey Mize starting for the Tigers. The first pitch will be at 6:40pm on YES and the Gotham Sports App.

DETROIT — After losing back-to-back games for the first time in three weeks, the Yankees head to Detroit to take on the Tigers for a three-game series at Comerica Park.

The Yankees have recalled RHP Yerry De Los Santos from AAA Scranton after optioning RHP Elmer Rodriguez after yesterday’s game. De Los Santos has not been great as of late, giving up four runs over his past four outings for the RailRiders.

NEW YORK — Instant Reaction to the Yankees’ (46-30) 3-1 loss to the Reds on Father’s Day.

1. Elmer Rodriguez did not pitch his best today. He surrendered three runs on one swing, off the bat of Spencer Steer, with two outs in the fourth inning. It came after a leadoff walk and a two-out single.

   Rodriguez did more than enough to keep the Yankees in the game but was only able to go 4+ innings in a stretch where the Yankees are without a team off day until July 2nd. He will be optioned to AAA after the game today.

2. The Yankees had good at-bats against Reds starter Chase Burnes. It only resulted in one run, a solo home run off the bat of Ben Rice. It was Rice’s 22nd home run of the 2026 season, and he’s been outstanding in the power department.

3. The Yankees were aggressive on the basepaths today, which also contributed to giving away outs. Jose Caballero overslid the bag at second base in the second inning to make the first out of that inning, and in the third inning Anthony Volpe was picked off at first base, though it looked like the first baseman was obstructing Volpe from getting back to the base.

4. The Yankees had chances, namely in the sixth inning with runners on the corners with two outs, but could not break through to chip at the Reds’ two-run lead.

5. Credit to Tim Hill, Paul Blackburn, Brent Headrick, and Fernando Cruz for pitching four scoreless innings in relief. It’s truly a shame the Yankees offense wasted that sort of appearance from their bullpen that has struggled at times.

6. The Yankees’ defense just collapsed in the top of the ninth with Camilo Doval on the mound. Jazz Chisholm Jr. booted a ball, and after a bad relay in, it ended up as a leadoff triple. The run would score off Camilo Doval on a RBI double by Marte that needed to be caught in left by Dominguez.

7. The Yankees have not won a series at Yankee Stadium against the Reds since 2014. They won the first game of the series.

8. After the game, the Yankees will go to Detroit to take on the Tigers. Tomorrow, it will be Gerrit Cole, who was originally scheduled to pitch today, going against Framber Valdez. First pitch will be at 6:10pm on YES.

NEW YORK — Instant reaction to the Yankees (46-29) lost to the Reds (36-39) by a score of 10-2 in the Saturday afternoon affair at Yankee Stadium.

1. Will Warren struggled. He allowed two earned runs and four unearned runs in his five innings of work, including a two-out three-run home run off the bat of Sal Stewart in the fifth inning after a leadoff error by Ben Rice in the inning.

   While it is fair to critique Warren, his defense, particularly in left field and the E3, did not do him any favors. Warren also issued walks in some inopportune spots.

2. The Yankees only scored one run today, a Paul Goldschmidt solo home run in the bottom of the first inning against Reds starter Andrew Abbott. It would be the only run Abbott surrendered, coming on a 93.5 MPH fastball in the heart of the zone.

3. In the second inning with Anthony Volpe at the plate, Jose Caballero got picked off at second base to end the inning. Plays like that just can’t happen. It also came in at-bat where Volpe was working the count and had a solid at-bat and could have come through with a hit. Volpe then walked to lead off the next inning, stole second, and was stranded.

4. The Yankees had one hit going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That inning, in an attempt to mount a comeback, they loaded the bases with two outs, but Goldschmidt struck out looking and lost the Yankees’ final ABS challenge.

5. Aaron Boone left Warren in the game and, after two singles with two outs, went to Tim Hill. Hill got a flyout on a solid catch by Jose Caballero in LF to get out of the jam.

6. The Yankees chased Abbott out of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with back-to-back singles to open the inning. The Reds went to TJ Antone in the bullpen, and he shut the Yankees’ rally right down. Just a bad day for the Yankees lineup.

7. Jake Bird pitched a scoreless seventh inning. It was the second consecutive scoreless outing for Bird. That’s good.

8. Ryan Yarbough allowed four runs in the eighth inning and looked really bad. His ERA is 4.33 on the season and really should not be on the team any further.

9. Ben Rice’s little slump continued today, going 0-5. Rice is 15 for his last 81 (.185) in the month of June. Yes, there has been some power, but the overall numbers have been down as of late. Noticeably with Judge out of the lineup, meaning Rice is getting pitched much tougher.

10. The Yankees scored in the 8th inning after back-to-back singles by Bellinger and Dominguez and an E6 off the bat of Caballero gave the Yankees their second run of the game.

11. The Reds had three errors today, and the Yankees did not capitalize on them.

NEW YORK — Instant Reaction to the Yankees (46-28) win over the Cincinatti Reds (35-39) in the opener of the three-game series in the Bronx.

1. Cam Schlittler was dominant. Over six innings, Schlittler did not walk a batter, striking out 13 batters and giving up no runs. The Reds’ offense has struggled with fastballs over 95 MPH, and those struggles showed tonight against Schlittler.

   It was obvious coming into this outing, but Schlittler is the frontrunner to both start the All-Star Game for the AL and win the AL Cy Young. He has been beyond dominant in his sophomore season.

2. The Yankees scored four runs in the second inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. led the inning off with a solo home run. After two walks, Ben Rice powered a three-run home run deep into Monument Park. It gave Schlittler a cushion to work with to be more in the zone with the Reds hitters.

3. Jake Bird worked his first 1-2-3 inning since May 20th, which was impressive, giving the Yankees a shutdown seventh inning after pulling Schlittler from the game.

4. Brent Headrick also worked a scoreless inning around a walk. Headrick has been one of the Yankees’ best relievers so far this season.

5. Jazz Chisholm Jr. stole his 21st base of the season in the eighth inning. That is good for the fourth-most stolen bases in baseball, and he’s on pace to have 40 steals on the season.

6. Anthony Volpe added some insurance in the eighth inning with an RBI single off Reds reliever Zach Maxwell. Volpe had two hits and a walk in this game as he continues to have a rather productive homestand.

The Yankees will be facing Rhett Lowder, who has struggled in 2026. In fact, his surface numbers are better than his underlying metrics, which show that Lowder has an xERA of 4.99 and gets hit hard regularly. NEW YORK — Instant Reactions to the Yankees’ (45-28) 5-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox (39-34) in the series finale at Yankee Stadium.

1. Ryan Weathers got the start for the Yankees and did not pitch badly. The one blemish on the line of Weathers was a solo home run off the bat of Colson Montgomery. Weathers pitched 6.1 innings, striking out eight batters.

   Weathers had struggled in recent outings, and today was a big bounceback for him going forward.

2. The Yankees tied the game in the third inning on an opposite-field solo home run off the bat of Ryan McMahon. It was McMahon’s eighth home run of the season and 23rd RBI. Of his eight home runs, seven of them have been to the opposite field.

3. The Yankees had opportunities to score in the game but either wasted them or, for the case of Jose Caballero and Anthony Volpe, had bad baserunning cost the Yankees outs.

4. The Yankees bullpen collapsed in the eighth inning. After Fernando Cruz gave up a leadoff double in the top of the eighth inning, Aaron Boone went to Tim Hill. Hill came on and hit back-to-back batters to load the bases with no outs. After Hill got a strikeout, Boone went back to his pen, going to Camilo Doval.

5. On the first pitch Camilo Doval threw, he gave up a go-ahead. grand slam to Andrew Benintendi to give the White Sox the lead. Doval has struggled a lot against left-handers this season and got burned by another.

6. The Yankees’ offense only scored one run against Sean Burke, who was dialed in today over 7.1 innings of work. He struck out eight Yankees in that time and really shut down their lineup.

1. Carlos Rodón did not have his best outing of 2026 today. He pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs, but left with the lead and earned the win.

   The three runs all came off of one swing, a three-run home run on an 0-2 count off the bat of Colson Montgomery. It was a hanging slider in the zone. Just a bad pitch with two outs and the count he was in. Rodon struck out seven, but there was traffic all game.

2. The Yankees offense got started in the first inning with a two-out double by Amed Rosario and a two-run home run by Cody Bellinger. Bellinger was 3-4 today, landing a triple shy of the cycle. Bellinger continues to impress and put up massive production at Yankee Stadium.

3. Anthony Volpe has swung a good bat today, having an RBI triple in the second inning after a three-hit affair Tuesday. He scored Jose Caballero, who reached on a hit by pitch. Ali Sanchez drove in Volpe on an RBI single, his first of two hits in the game.

4. The Yankees were looking to add insurance in the fifth inning after a Bellinger single and a Jasson Domínguez double from the right side of the plate. The insurance was provided on a two-run single by Jose Caballero, who was playing left field today.

5. Paul Goldschmidt has been the key to the Yankees’ offense as of late. For the second game in a row, he hit a big home run. Today, it was a three-run shot in the fifth inning to break the game open. It was Goldschmidt’s 11th home run of 2026, which is more than he had in all of 2025.

6. Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a solo home run in the seventh inning for his eighth blast of the season. With his shot to right field, every Yankee starter had a hit in the game. Chisholm Jr. had some rough at-bats earlier in the game, so seeing him have a better at-bat later on is promising considering he has swung a hot bat for about a month now.

7. Paul Blackburn gave the Yankees some length in the bullpen. He gave up one run, the second home run off the bat of Montgomery in the game. He left the mound with first and third, one out, with Brent Headrick coming on to get out of the jam he created and keep the game a laugher, which he did.

8. Jake Bird continued to struggle today. He gave up a home run on the second pitch he threw to Sam Antonacci. Bird seems to give up runs every time he pitches and is largely ineffective when he does pitch. If you can’t be trusted in a blowout lead to not making it close, you frankly should not be on the team.

9. The Yankees and the White Sox will square off for the series finale of the three-game series in the Bronx. For the Yankees, they will send out the struggling lefty Ryan Weathers (2-5, 4.36) against the slugging White Sox. The White Sox will send out RHP Sean Burke (3-4, 4.15). First pitch will be at 7:05pm from Yankee Stadium and broadcast on the YES network and the Gotham Sports app.

NEW YORK — Instant reactions to the Yankees’ (44-27) 12-2 win over the White Sox (38-33) on a Monday night in the Bronx.

1. Gerrit Cole gave up a first-inning home run to former Yankee Andrew Bennentendi. Cole then went on to retire 13 batters in a row before a ball off the glove of first baseman Ben Rice broke up the string of retired hitters. Cole would give up one more run, coming in the sixth inning on an infield single by Luisangel Acuna. Cole struck out six over six innings of two-run ball as he continues to impress post-Tommy John surgery.

2. Davis Martin came into the game at Yankee Stadium with a 2.41 ERA, surrendering only three home runs. In his outing at Yankee Stadium, Martin gave up three home runs — Spencer Jones, Ben Rice, and Paul Goldschmidt — and saw his ERA balloon to 3.31 after surrendering nine runs.

3. Every Yankee starter had a hit in the game. The Yankees also batted around in consecutive innings (third and fourth). They did all this without Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, or Trent Grisham.

4. Cody Bellinger had three hits and continues to be productive. His clutch two-run single in the third inning broke the tie and started the Yankees‘ onslaught of runs. Bellinger was also seemingly relaying runs from second base after a walk advanced him.

5. The White Sox had a position player (Luisángel Acuña) pitch the bottom of the eighth inning. He surrendered a solo home run to Josè Caballero. It was the second straight game Caballero homered.

6. Ryan Yarbough earned his second save of the season when he came in the game that was a blowout and saved the rest of the bullpen from having to pitch. That sends the Yankees’ relief corps in a good spot for tomorrow, having back-to-back days off. New York does not have an off day until July 2nd.

The Yankees are 7-4 without Aaron Judge, which is impressive because of how much the team typically relies on him and his otherworldly production. The Yankees’ lineup has been getting contributions from players all throughout the lineup, which is really good to see from a team that is second in WAR, only to the Dodgers.

Yankees RHP Gerrit Cole (1-1, 2.45)

Gerrit Cole has been solid since coming back from his TJ surgery rehab. His last two starts have both come against the Guardians, and one was a struggle and a loss, and the other was a laborious outing not helped by his defense. Seeing another team, particularly one that strikes out the third most in baseball, should bode well for Cole and the Yankees.

White Sox RHP Davis Martin (9-2, 2.41)

Davis Martin has been one of the better starting pitchers across baseball so far this season. The Yankees luck out seeing Martin on the road, where his ERA this season is close to four, whereas at home his ERA is just over one. The Yankees have also had some success against Martin in the past, but he will be a tough test for the Bombers’ lineup.

TORONTO — As we know, the Yankees are not at full strength. They have struggled in Toronto over recent seasons and against the Blue Jays. Those worries were washed away Sunday afternoon. On back-to-back afternoons, the Yankees took the lead in the ninth inning to win a series. Saturday, it was Paul Goldschmidt against Luis Varland, who was the best reliever in baseball at that point.

Sunday it was Ben Rice off Braden Fischer, who is also a good reliever. Both of these hits were clutch. Last season, both games might have been losses the way the Yankees played at Rogers Centre. Not this season. Not with the seeming sense of urgency the Yankees are projecting.

The Yankees broke the game open on a Jose Caballero home run later on in the ninth inning to cement the first series victory for the Yankees at Rogers Centre since September of 2023.

“It feels good to shake hands and be celebrating a win in here, after which, obviously, that was very difficult for us in this building last year, so it is a new year.” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after Sunday’s 8-3 win. “It’s you’ve got to keep going all the time, and what a good finish to, you know, an outstanding road trip against a couple good teams, you know, headed into the off day.”

The Yankees had just one win in ten tries at Rogers Centre last season, including the postseason. It truly felt like there were demons in that ballpark for the Yankees, where every ball bounced the way of the Blue Jays. That was not the case this weekend. The Yankees’ pitching staff was solid in the two wins, even with Will Warren’s laborious short outing Sunday, and every time the Yankees needed a big, clutch hit late, they got it.

The difference in the two wins for the Yankees was which team got the big hit, and in both instances, it was the Yankees.

“I feel like I’ve come in here a lot of nights and said that was a gritty one right there, and I’m sure part of that has bled into that thought.” Boone said of the team’s late-game heroics. “So these guys are playing for a lot. I feel like we’ve developed a really good hunger to this point in the season, and I think to be an outstanding club, I think you’ve got to develop that hunger throughout the year, and I feel like these guys are in the midst of that.”

The clutch gene is something few teams have. I think one thing is certain: the 2026 Yankees have the clutch gene. That has been apparent all season, and after the series in Toronto, I think it’s even more of a talking point.

All season a narrative has been that the Yankees are more urgent with their decision-making—and that seems to be the truth. Sometimes losing to a division rival puts things into perspective, and for the Yankees, it feels like it woke the team up a bit, and every game feels like life and death in 2026. They feel like a special group that is extremely close and focused.

The Yankees have a championship window open with Gerrit Cole, Giancarlo Stanton, and Aaron Judge still active, and it would be best not to waste it. So far, it’s the return of the next man up Yankees, as Rice alluded to after the game, like 2019. For the sake of the Yankees, they should hope it ends hoisting a trophy and not walking off the field in shock.
